The birth of the Oriental Band
of Al Bahr Temple arose during a Shrine Circus by ten or twelve of
the Al Bahr Greeters in the year 1944. Later the group met at
a Masonic Temple, presided over by
Harry Le Barron who outlined in detail the purpose of the band. A
rough draft of by-laws was presented a week
later. On June 15, 1945 a letter was received from the A.S.O.B. granting
recognition and the Al Bahr Temple
Divan accepted our body as an official uniformed unit of our Temple.
Today, 50+ years later wearing their colorful Arabian costumes and playing their
Musettes and percussion
instruments the unit members are ever present in parades and other Shrine
functions. The highlight of the year
is the annual Western Association Oriental Bands Jamboree, which is held in
major cities.
The 1st Thursday of each month at the Oriental Band Shed
behind AL Bahr Shrine Center.
Meeting at 7:00pm.
