The
"Flying Al Bahrs" Shrine Club held its first election of officers on November
2nd 1970, electing Noble William
E. Heyne as our first President. Since that time we've had varied
personalities as Presidents, but each had the common
goal of promoting Shrindom and our Philanthropy of - - - "Flying so that our
children can walk".
Membership in our "Club" was originally established, requiring Flying
skills or at least a related aeronautical
background. While most of our members are commercial and/or private
pilots, we have quite a few ex-military pilots
with (as I understand) our top hour pilot, Paul Jewell, with an excess of 24,000
hours. We even (now) have a "Hot Air
Balloon" student pilot as a very active member. Over the years the
requirements for Club membership has changed so that the
Flyers now welcome any Shrine Noble who has a desire or interest in flying.
We also use our skills and Love of Flying
assisting our Temple, Potentate and Divan in the many Temple functions as well
as promoting our many "social" activities and
building camaraderie among all Shrine Nobles thru flying.
We also have our lighter side. We work hard, but we also play
hard, with our Secret Sorties, Bomb Runs, Fly-ins, Horseshoe Tournaments and
Hanger Parties.
Yes! We fly for Shrindom, fun and the love of flying!
