The Al Bahr Drum Corps was
organized in May, 1919 with eight members, all of whom were drummers.
The membership grew 18 drummers, when bugles were added in 1939.
Glockenspiels and cymbals
were added in 1940, thus forming the Drum and Bugle Corps.
The Mission of the Drum and Bugle Corps is to assist
the Potentate and Officers of Al Bahr Shrine in
the entertainment for ceremonials, parades, and such other occasions as directed
by the Potentate, so long
as such performances further the interests of Al Bahr Shrine or Shrinedom in
general. In the early 1970's,
under the leadership of Drum Majors Buz Griffiths and Vic Henry and a succession
of progressive thinking
Presidents, the Drum and Bugle Corp began to grow in numbers, and improve in
efficiency, when Drum
Major Buz Griffiths coined the nickname "The Proud Ones", which we continue to
use with pride.
